How a hand plays out

Blackjack is simple to learn and pleasant to linger over. Here is the running order for every round at Curtain Call Twenty-One.

Act I

Set your stake

Raise the stake in steps of 10, 50 or 100 free coins, anywhere from 10 to 500. The stake leaves your balance the moment the cards go out.

Act II

Play your hand

You and the house each get two cards; one of the dealer’s stays face down. Hit to draw, stand to hold, or double once on your opening pair.

Act III

The house replies

The dealer draws to 16 and stands on every 17, soft ones too. Closest to 21 without going over takes the applause — a natural blackjack pays 3:2.

Why a single table

A theatre with one show, played well

Most social casinos stack a hundred games in a lobby. Grandi went the other way.

We built one table and gave it the whole stage: a genuine 52-card deck shuffled before your eyes, a dealer who follows one written rule and never improvises, and a coin balance that moves exactly as the cards say it should. Nothing on the table is staged for effect — every deal, draw and payout is worked out in real time.

Because the coins are free and worthless outside the game, you can try a bold double, learn when a soft 17 deserves another card, or simply enjoy the ritual of the reveal.

Tonight’s house rules

  • Number cards count their face value; Jack, Queen and King count 10.
  • An Ace counts 11, or 1 whenever 11 would take the hand past 21.
  • The dealer hits 16 or less and stands on all 17s.
  • Blackjack pays 3:2, a win pays 1:1, a tie returns the stake.
